From a series of four plates representing the Four Seasons after François Boucher. Boucher broke with the traditionally depiction of labours perfomed during each season, and instead chose to paint pleasant pasttimes. Boucher's Four Seasons were once believed to have been commissioned for Madame de Pompadour, mistress of French King Louis XV.  It has even been suggested that Madame de Pompadour is the woman depicted in 'Winter'.
